This piece was inspired by the beautiful scenery I saw while hiking the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I created the sketch en plein air to accurately capture the rock layers, then finished the painting in my studio. I wanted the formations to feel steady yet striking against the moving sky, bring an uplifting sense of ease.
